The Works consist of the creation of a new Ophthalmic Day Care & Ophthalmology Theatres on the second floor of the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital Cork including associated stand alone 3 storey new Plant Room Building to house the required services.
The new facility will comprise 2 Nr Operating Theatres and associated Anesthetic Theatre, surgery preparatory rooms, recovery bay ward, a day ward & eye check facility, c/u sterile room, scrub room, house store, dirty utility, disposal room, consultant office, kitchenette, public waiting area and Staff & Visitor WCs.
The Works are being undertaken in a sensitive live hospital environment. To ensure the Works do not impact on the normal day to day running of the hospital, significant prior planning and co-ordination has been undertaken with all stakeholders and much of the intervention works will be executed out of hours and at agreed weekend possessions of affected areas.
Significant Mechanical & Electrical Works across the first, second and roof levels are required to facilitate the new facility. These include diversion of existing hospital services, installation of roof mounted air handling units, chillers, condensing boilers, calorifier units, medical gases, laser locking and theatre controls, access control and associated fire / security installations.
