Our radiology works included temporary relocation of MRI & CT facilities along with associated support services during construction and full reconfiguration and integration of the existing radiology suite into the new build and overall radiology master-plan. These works required rigorous planning to develop a programme that was achievable, yet managed the demolition, and disruptive elements sensibly to minimise disturbance to the adjoining live areas such as radiology department, recovery wards and consultant clinics. Detailed possession plans and concise project delivery were developed and implemented to complete works in live areas. As main contractor Eamon Costello (Kerry) Ltd was responsible for full service and specialist co-ordination on the project. Installation of copper shielding and lead lining in accordance with strict radiological protocol were key elements of the project. In conjunction with the MRI/CT works we were also awarded a power source upgrade contract for the entire hospital campus. Complete upgrade of the MV/LV infrastructure, new sub-mains distribution and an associated new switch room for the whole hospital site were added as part of the main contract to facilitate the new theatre and MRI-CT loadings. These works require optimum safety and project planning to ensure the works around high risk live services were co-ordinated safely and with minimal risk. In addition switch overs and back-up power plans were meticulously planned and implemented to ensure no disruption to the hospital supply.
