Muckross House restoration works was a high profile refurbishment project by Eamon Costello (Kerry) Ltd with regard to the standing and significance of Muckross House in Ireland’s heritage and its iconic status as a tourist destination.
The project consisted of removing, refurbishing and re-installing 20 No. substantial windows to the Western and Northern Facades of Muckross House, while ensuring the houses security and protection of fixtures and fittings along with adjacent shrubbery and garden features.
Externally significant lead and roof repair works to the valleys, bay windows, and stone string course were completed. Cast Iron rainwater goods were removed from the façade for refurbishment and refitting.
On the periphery existing pavings were repaired and re-pointed along with adjacent dwarf walls which were extensively repaired and re-plastered with traditional lime plaster.
Further repair was undertaken to three sets of steps including rebuilding of salvaged brickwork, rebuilding of limestone treads, and re-plastering of balustrade walls enclosing the steps.
