Conservation and Heritage

The project included a total transformation of the Centre’s exhibitions to deliver an authentic, and imaginative re-telling of the story of the Blasket Islands, their rich heritage and literature.
As a flagship visitor attraction for County Kerry it sets the bar for modern and interactive cultural story telling by understanding the needs of its patrons and re-imagining the entire facility to provide extensive and striking audio-visual displays, interactive and multi-lingual audio, and strategic focal points. A new entrance foyer was added to give order, shelter and greater accessibility to the facility through automatic doors and curved glazed screens. Externally, radial paving slabs up to 3m long were honed and then inscribed with literary excerpts from the Island famed writers. New acoustic ceilings were added to provide an a suitably ambient visitor experience.
