Following on from our successful delivery of Phase 1 works in 2019 ECKL were pleased to return to Doneraile Court to undertake the most recent scope of restoration works to safeguard the houses future and conserve and improve its first-floor fabric to public display quality.
Our brief required the extensive repair of lime render walls and feature decorative plasterwork to ceilings. Externally unsympathetic sand cement render was removed entirely and replaced with build appropriate lime plaster to allow the limestone masonry wall to breathe again.
Original flooring up to 300mm wide was removed, recorded conserved and reinstalled on completion.
To protect the building from a fire perspective a comprehensive Corofil installation was completed on the 2nd floor along with an extension of the fire alarm zones. Structurally and to benefit public access a new lift was constructed within the building; originating at basement level and terminating at 2nd floor level with intermediate stops at each floor level.
Thanks to our site management teams nuanced and compassionate approach to fuse the inclusion of part original, bespoke and period joinery items and doors to achieve maximum re-use and incorporation of these items in a blend that was unified and harmonious – the end result was seamless.
